| Bob & Rose were engaged on the banks of the Shannuck River. He gave her a box, she looked at the ring, and said, "Who is it for?" -- it never occurred to her that he would want to marry her. Bob said it was for her, so she put it on. He never really asked her to marry him. They walked uptown, and Rose showed the ring to a friend, who asked (with Bob there), "Whose is it?" Her father was fine with the idea of getting married -- so long as Rose finished school (they promised him she would). They didn't start making concrete marriage plans until the following summer. |
