Rose Rearick Tanguy |
Rose was supposed to go to college in 1949, but had a bad case of mono (in bed most of the year), so she was delayed a year. Rose was a speech and English major. She was the first female student to have a baby and remain a student in the 102 years of history of the college. Rose had to move out of the dorm when she got married to Bob Tanguy in 1952; she had to move out of Miss Barr's house in town at which she was staying when she got pregnant with Debra. Her senior year she won the drama award for best performance by a female (while she was pregnant). After Rose gave birth, her sorority sisters (Alpha Gamma Delta) arranged a schedule to make sure someone watched Deb. At Bob's ordination in May 1954, Deb was with her grandfather Rearick. It was warm, Grandpa was dressed in wool, Deb was wrapped in a blanket, and Deb was happy and sleeping. |
